12,000 hectares of land turn into T-Aman seedbeds in Sirajganj

SIRAJGANJ, June 20: Paddy peasants of the district are now passing busy time preparing T-Aman seedbeds.

High or semi high land is suitable for Aman seedbeds.

Floating seedbed is also popular in the area.

A good number of farmers said seedbed preparation will continue till the Bengali month of Bhadra.

Each kg of high yielding Aman seed is being sold at Tk 300 to Tk 500.

The Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) is also previding quality T-Aman seed among the farmers at a low rate.

They will bring the crop land under T-Aman paddy cultivation early as the low lying land goes under water in a flood in the region.

Paddy cultivators said they are worried over the present flood-like situation across the area.

Ashraf Ali of Kazipur upazila said he has prepared seedbed son some five decimals of land to cultivate the crop on 12 bighas of land.

The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said over 12,000 hectares of land have been turned into T-Aman seedbeds this season.

Growers generally start sowing Aman seed after 30 days of harvesting Boro paddy, DAE officials added.

Farmers can transplant seedlings from seedbeds after 40 days of its sowing, sources added.
