RAJSHAHI, Aug 24: Nearly sixty per cent areas of Rajshahi town protection embankment of Tahirpur under Bagmara upazila have been washed away by the river within three months of its construction.

A team of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) during its visit to the construction site on Thursday has found that the embankment had been eroded by the river due to use of low-quality construction materials.

Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya, Public Relation Officer of ACC informed, on receiving a complaint of irregularities and corruption in the construction of the Tahirpur town protection embankment along the river Boral under a project of 'Countering the Influence of climate change' under the Ministry of Forest and Environment, a team of ACC visited the construction site and found the complaint to be genuine.

He further said work of 400 metres of the 415-metre-long embankment was constructed at a cost of Tk 50 million. About 60 per cent of the embankment has been devoured by the river within three months of the construction and cracks have been developed in the remaining portion of the embankment, informed Pranab.

He added, the ACC team has collected files and project related documents and after reviewing those, the report will be submitted to the commission demanding further inquiry of the project.
