BOGRA, Feb 07: Acute sapling crisis is causing untold suffering to the Boro growers of Adamdighi upazila of the district this season.

Severe cold like situation damage many Boro seedbeds this season recently. Cultivators are now worried over the present situation.

According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources, over 9,000 farmers of 25 to 30 villages in Raktadah Beel area bring more than 900 acres of land under Boro farming every season.

DAE again said farmers of the area generally grow around 1,000 tonnes of fresh rice every season.

"I have brought some five bighas of land under Boro farming this season spending Tk 4,500 extra to purchase saplings," said farmer Delowar Hossain of Karozbari village under the upazila.

Deputy Director of DAE Protul Chandra Sarker said Boro farming in the beel area is important for the region. "To make the programme a success we have provided all sorts of support", he added.
