Aman production exceeds target in Rangpur region

RANGPUR, Dec 11 (BSS): The fixed production target of Transplanted Aman (T-Aman) rice already exceeded by 3.72 per cent after completing its harvest on 93.83 per cent of total cultivated land area in Rangpur agriculture region.

Officials of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) officials said the farmers have already harvested T-Aman rice on 0.56 million hectares of land of total cultivated land area of 0.60 million hectares by Monday in the region.

"The farmers have so far produced over 1.7 million tonnes of T-Aman crop in terms of clean rice (2.55 million tonnes paddy) against the fixed target of producing 1.63 million tonnes of clean rice in all five districts of the region this season.

"Currently, the achieved average yield rate of T-Aman rice stands at three tonnes of clean rice per hectare as the farmers are yet to harvest the crop on 37,207 hectares of land," said Horticulture Specialist of DAE at its regional office Khondker Md Mesbahul Islam.

The farmers have cultivated T-Aman rice on over 0.60 million hectares of land exceeding the fixed farming target on 0.59 million hectares by 9,292 hectares of land or 1.64 per cent in the region this season.

"The achieved T-Aman crop yield rates in terms of clean rice now stand at 3.52 tonnes per hectare of land for hybrid variety, 2.96 tonnes for high yielding variety and 1.74 tonnes per hectare for local variety this season," Islam added.
