Aman rice procurement going on in Magura

MAGURA, Dec 30: Aman rice procurement target is expected to be achieved in the district.

Magura district food office sources said paddy procurement drive started in the district from December 01.

The procurement target is 4,517 tonnes and procurement rate is Tk 36 per kg.

A total of 201 millers have been told to collect rice.

The drive will continue till February 28.

Official sources said some 2,010 tonnes of rice have been procured till December 29.

A rice mill owner Shabu Sharif in Sajiara area under Magura Sadar said, "I have signed an agreement with the Food Office to sell rice under the procurement drive."

"The procurement rate fixed by the government is reasonable. Consequently we are supplying rice smoothly."

District food controller Rezaul Islam said Aman procurement drive is going on in the district in full swing.

"We are optimistic to achieve the procurement target long before the scheduled time", he added.

Executive director of local NGO Palli Prokriti Shafiqur Rahman said this year government started Aman procurement drive just after harvest which was helpful for the paddy growers.
