Banana production brings smile on faces of Panchagarh peasants

PANCHAGARH, Mar 28 (BSS): Banana cultivation has brought smile on the faces of a large number of farmers at Sonaher and Chilahati villages under Debiganj upazila of the district this year.

The farmers of different villages of the district are now getting interest to raise banana orchards instead of cultivating jute and paddy.

"I have cultivated banana on two acres of land spending Tk 50,000 and madea profit of Tk 0.14 million by selling banana after meeting all expenses", said farmer Amol Kumer of Sonaher village of the upazila.

Deputy director of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Panchagarh, Md Samchul Huque said riding on the better yield and high profits with less investment farmers encouraged by us are now interested to cultivate banana.

Traders from Dhaka, Khulna and other parts of the country are coming to the area and getting supply of adequate banana from Banana orchard here.
