Bogura sugarcane farmers expect good production

BOGURA, Mar 27: Sugarcane growers in the district are expecting a good yield of the crop this season.

Officials at the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said sugarcane cultivation area has exceeded this year as the growers had got a bumper output last season.

Farmer Zahangir Alam of Bogura Sadar said, "I had cultivated sugarcane on 34 decimals of land last year and made over Tk 23,000 profit."

"This year I am growing the item on 44 decimals of land. I am expecting to earn Tk 50,000," he added.

Sub-assistant agriculture officer of DAE Faridur Rahman said hybrid sugarcane varieties are popular among the growers.

They also apply modern techniques in their fields for desired production, he added.
