Bridge lies in dilapidated condition for over 50 yrs

NILPHAMARI, Apr 21: A bridge in Domar, Chilahati, Bhoulagonj regional road under Domar upazila of the district remains in dilapidated condition for more than 50 years. The people of the region are demanding the construction of the bridge for long.

Bhoulagonj from proposed Chilahati land port having a distance of 6.0 km are two renowned haats and business centres of the region. There are two colleges and high schools in both these haats and the bridge is located near Bhoulaganj Bazar.

Residents including teachers, students, guardians and local people of so many union councils around the bridge in their day to day works use the road.

Even people of Panchagorh district which is in a distance of 30 km from Chilahati use this road to avail intercity trains at Chilahati railway station to travel up to such distance places of Rajshahi, Khulna and Dhaka.

Sources said soil test and plain table survey containing essential data has been done in the year 2010 but no tangible progress in building the bridge is visible yet.

Khadija Begum, a resident of Panchagarh municipality who is a student of Rajshahi University said she along with many students from Panchagarh avail Titumir intercity train from Chilahati Station but the broken bridge create trouble for them.

Executive Engineer of RHD AKM Hamidur Rahman said project proposal has been prepared and already sent to the concern authority but he failed to say anything more.
