Commercial sheep rearing expanding

TANGAIL, Oct 21: Many poor, ultra-poor and unemployed people become self-reliant by rearing sheep in the district.

A sociologist urged the village people to boost commercial sheep rearing.

Local sources said, sheep rearing is easier procedure than the cow and other animal and also it is comparably more profitable, because of less investment and more profit.

A expert of district livestock office sources said the sheep in one and the same things it would meet nutritional demand besides providing valuable wool for wool based textile.

Whereas comparably it is found that the sheep rearing is more profitable that is why wide ranging of commercial sheep farming may bring a social revolution to solve the economical problem of our poor, ultra poor and un-employed people.

The district livestock officer SM Awal Haque sources said there are a total 420 enlisted sheep farms are here in all the twelve upazilas of the district.

Small and home-based farms are not listed. In the other hand, many poor and un-employed people are rearing sheep and goat at home based and they trying to earn an amount the sources added.

A total of 81,750 sheep are being reared at those farms.

SM Awal Haque also said quick economic growth can be possible through proper uses and development of such kind commercial sheep rearing.

So many ultra poor, poor and un-employed youth are rearing sheep hither and thither, if the government provided them proper training by related department and arranged easy terms loan then it can be bring a bright future of our rural poor and unemployed youth local sources said.

People in the vast char area are doing good business due to availability of fodder. Sheep and goats can graze on the bank of the rivers and other open spaces.

Anisur Rahman of village Chowbaria under Sadar upazila said every years he is rearing six to eight sheep and goats rearing together and selling it to before Eid-ul Azha. For the rearing this sheep and goat his younger brother and sister help him to reared it.
