Dengue panic grips people across the districts

76 new patients admitted to hospitals in N-region in last 24 hours

SIRAJGANJ, Aug 17: A total of 76 new dengue-affected patients have been admitted to different hospitals across the six northern districts during the last 24 hours.

Dengue has taken a serious turn this year with official figures showing that four of the patients have already died till now.

The physicians suggest people to spray mosquito killers before they get home from outside.

At least 1,730 people in Joypurhat, Bogura, Sirajganj, Pabna, Chapainawabganj and Natore districts have been infected with the virus till now. Meanwhile, 328 patients are taking treatment under the different hospitals across the region.

Civil surgeon of Natore Sadar Hospital said people should be careful. "Aedes mosquitoes breed in clean water in and outside of houses, so we have to focus on those places."

In Bogura, a total of 24 people have been infected by dengue during the last 24 hours. Moreover, some 142, including senior staff nurse of Sonatola Upazila Health Complex are taking treatment across the district. A total 618 people have already been infected with the fever.

According to sources in District Civil Surgeon's Office, many people have came to Bogura from Dhaka to enjoy the Eid holidays. With the end of the Eid holidays, many are going back to Dhaka. Due to this, the number of dengue patients is now decreasing in the area.

In Chapainawabganj, the district civil surgeon's office source said dengue has infected six people in the last 24 hours. Some 25 are taking treatment across the district. A total 156 people have already been attacked with the fever.

In Siraganj, 15 have been affected by dengue over the last 24 hours. Some 73 are taking treatment at different health centres across the district. A total of 394 people have already been affected with the fever.

In Pabna, some 17 patients have been admitted to the hospitals during the last 24 hours. Some 55 are taking treatment across the district. A total 319 people have already been affected with the fever.

In Joypurhar, some four people are taking treatment in health centres across the district. A total 56 people have been affected with the fever.

In Natore, some 14 dengue affected patients have been identified during the last 24 hours. Some 28 are taking treatment across the district. A total 180 people have already been affected with the disease.

Our Correspondent from Rangpur writes: The outbreak of dengue has created panic among the people of Rangpur.

Some 465 patients were admitted to hospitals during the last 30 days, sources said. Most of the patients are undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) while some are also undergoing treatment outside RMCH. Many were discharged after treatment, sources also said.

However, most of the patients carried it from outside the district while some have been attacked with the disease in Rangpur and its adjacent districts.

Patients and their relatives alleged that the treatment of the patients is being hampered owing to lack of adequate equipment.

Sources at several hospitals, clinics and dialogistic centres said a good number of panicked people are coming for dengue tests. But the hospital authorities are doing the test only when they find it necessary, sources added.

Dr Shaheduzzaman , spokesperson of the RMCH said during last one day some 26 dengue patients got admitted to the hospital.

However, there was no report of admission of any dengue patient at any upazila health complex or hospital. Civil Surgeon office collected some 120 kits which were sent to upazila level hospital to combat any adverse circumstances, according to Rangpur Civil Surgeon office sources.

Hasanur, a patient who was undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital said he had been suffering from dengue for seven days.

He said that he was affected by the dengue after visiting Dhaka. Many other patients said they went to Dhaka before being affected.

Though the number of dengue patients is increasing day by day, they don't have any shortage of dengue detection kits, said acting director, RMCH Dr, Sultan Ahmed.

He said they are trying to ensure proper treatment and observation of the patients who are admitted to the hospital.

Our Tangail Correspondent adds: A total of 17 people have been affected by dengue in the last 24 hours in the district.

District civil surgeon office sources said till Saturday, a total of 367 people were identified as dengue patients in the district so far. People of the district are worried as the number of the dengue patients is increasing alarmingly in the area.

Moreover, a total of 367 patients were admitted to the Tangail General Hospital and other clinics with high fever. Of them one died.

A total of 286 patients have returned home from the health centres after treatment.

Meanwhile, three patients were referred to Dhaka hospitals for better treatment, civil surgeon office Tangail sources said.

Some 286 patients were released from hospitals till Friday last. Some 81 people are undergoing treatment at Tangail General Hospital.
