Disciplined life vital for checking diabetes: Experts

RAJSHAHI, Nov 18 (BSS): Health experts and medical practitioners at a seminar observed on Saturday that maintaining discipline, taking prescribed diets and medicines and regular physical exercise are very important for the patients suffering from diabetes.

Creating mass-awareness can be the vital means of reducing the number of diabetic patients, the said.

Terming diabetes as a silent killer and one of the major social burdens, they suggested creating adequate public awareness about the disease and getting rid of it in leading a normal life.

They came up with the observations while addressing a people-oriented seminar on controlling diabetes at Rajshahi Medical College (RMC) auditorium in Rajshahi city.

Rajshahi Diabetic Welfare Society organised the seminar marking its 30th founding anniversary and World Diabetic Day- 2018.

President of Bangladesh Diabetic Welfare Society Professor Dr AK Azad Khan, Head of Department of Endocrinology of Dhaka Central Medical College Prof Dr Layek Ahmed Khan and Head of Department of Endocrinology in Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) Prof Dr Imtiaj Mahbub spoke on the occasion as focal persons.

Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton addressed the seminar as chief guest with president of Rajshahi Diabetic Welfare Society Dr FMA Zahid in the chair.

RMC Principal Prof Dr Nawshad Ali and chief medical officer of Rajshahi University Dr Tabibur Rahman Sheikh also spoke.
