RAJSHAHI, June 11: Despite a trumpeted crackdown against ‘drug’ dealers and peddlers, selling of various drugs including hemp (Ganja), Phensidyl, Yaba and heroin is continuing unabated at various different points in the city.

Sources said price of those is more than the double now-a-days against the price couples of weeks ago.

One Razzak in the city said whenever anyone stands in front of any tea stall, some street children will approach him and inquire what he needs.

After mentioning the name of the drug, one of the children takes the money in advance, goes to the drug dealers and returns soon there.

He leaves the drug at a particular place from where customers collect those.

It is learnt, present rate of a bottle of phensidyl is Tk 850 as against Tk 450 weeks ago, a tiny pack of heroin which was sold at Tk 50 earlier is being sold now at Tk 120 and Yaba is selling at Tk 50 to Tk 60 per tablet than the previous rate.

Liton, a hemp consumer of the city, said 25 gram of hemp was available at Tk 450 some 20 days ago but now the same is being sold at Tk 900 to Tk 1,000.

He further informed whatever the prices are, all sort of ‘drugs’ are available in every spot of the city.

Moreover, drug addicts visit slums at Madhya Char to collect all sorts of ‘drug’ from there.

Boatmen help them cross the waterbody to reach the area.

Those new slums raised inside the charland of the river Padma are now being used as haven for ‘drug’ hoarding and trading.

They were allegedly informing the ‘drug’ dealers about the dress, appearance and names of the drug peddlers and drug addicts by using codes though mobile phones.

Mahboob Alam, officer in charge (Investigation) of Motihar Police Station, said regular drive against the ‘drug’ dealers and peddlers will continue.
