Eight die in three road accidents

A total of eight people were killed in separate road accidents in Mymensingh, Rajshahi and Khulna on Tuesday, reports BSS.

In Mymensingh, four people were killed and two others injured as a bus hit a CNG-run auto rickshaw in Ramgopalpur area under Gouripur upazila.

One of the deceased was identified as Tarikul Islam, 35, resident of Phulbaria upazila of the district. Identities of the others deceased could not be known immediately.

Officer-in-Charge of Gouripur police station Delwar Ahamed said the accident occurred when a Kishoreganj-bound bus hit the auto rickshaw from opposite direction in the area at about 1 pm, leaving four passengers of the auto rickshaw dead on the spot and two other injured.

The injured were sent to a local hospital.

Meanwhile, in Rajshahi, three people including a baby were killed and at least 14 others injured in a road accident in Kamarpara area on Rajshahi-Chapainawabgonj highway under Godagari Upazila of the district this morning.

Police said, the accident occurred when two passengers buses collided head-on in the area left three people killed and at least 14 people injured.

One of the dead was identified as Faruque Hossain, 35, son of Ataur Rahman of Kuthipara area under the same upazila. He was the driver of one of the ill-fated buses.

Injured persons were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital and Godagari Upazila Health Complex, said Altaf Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Godagari Police Station.

In Khulna, a push-cart driver was killed as a stone-laden truck knocked him from behind in Bangladesh Bank area.

However, identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Officer-in-Charge of Khulna Kotwali thana Mizanur Rahman told BSS that the man died on the spot around 9am after the truck which was coming from Custom ghat area knocked down him from behind.

The OC said police seized the truck while its driver managed to flee.
