Enclaves people’s living standard improves

NILPHAMARI, Oct 21: The multi-dimensional assistance and development projects of the government for the thousands of people in the erstwhile enclave saw their living largely improved in the past four years.

The expectations of the people living in all 111 former enclaves in Bangladesh territory have become fulfilled.

Sources said the enclaves were exchanged on August 01, 2015. Out of a total of 162 enclaves 111 enclaves were in Bangladesh and 51 enclaves were in India.

The living standard of 37,000 people of the enclaves has improved for different initiatives taken by the government.

They are now enjoying fundamental rights as a citizen including enlistment of their names in the voter list.

Sources said around Tk 2,000 million were spent to construct RCC roads, establish primary and secondary school, clinics and provide electricity and so on. There is no such facility in the pre-exchange dates.

Sources said NGOS and other organisations are also engaged in the development activities. Social safety net programme of the government are also provided to the now defunct enclave people.

The enclaves were situated in Nilphamari, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat and Panchagarh districts.

While contacted Abdur Rahman, a resident of a enclave in Panchagarh district said they are very happy as roads and schools were constructed and electricity connections given to their homes.
