Experts for keeping blood pressure under control to lead a normal life

RANGPUR, Apr 07 (BSS): Health experts at separate free blood pressure checkup and counselling camps on Sunday laid emphasis on keeping hypertension or high blood pressure (HBP) under control to lead normal life.

They especially recommended the HBP patients for regular physical exercise, walking, less salt intake, changed food habit, avoiding fatty foodstuffs and maintaining proper weight to reduce risks of deadly heart attacks, strokes and brain haemorrhages.

The Hypertension and Research Centre, Rangpur (HRCR) organised the camps and brief discussions in observance of the World Health Day-2019 on Rangpur Press Club premises and Shapla Chatter area in the city.

Specialist physicians of HRCR, a sister organisation of 'Wasim-Waleda Bahumukhi Kallyan Foundation', are providing treatments to 22,900 registered HBP patients of Rangpur division and other adjoining northern districts at a cost of only Taka 40.

Coordinated by Chief Executive Officer of HRCR Md. Anwar Hossain, 34 medical assistants and nurses conducted free blood pressure checkups of 500 people and specialist physicians provided necessary counselling to the HBP patients in the camps.

Secretary General of HRCR and Professor of the Department of Medicine of Rangpur Medical College and Hospital Dr Shah Md Sarwar Jahan, its Registrar Dr. Alam Bony and Cardiology Specialist Dr. Alhaj Joynal Abedin Jewell addressed the occasions.

Anwar Hossain said the camps were arranged for educating the people about severe consequences of hypertension and uncontrolled HBP to reduce risks of heart attacks, brain haemorrhage, damage of kidney, eye sight and many other organs.

Citing research findings and statistics of HRCR, Professor Dr. Sarwar Jahan said around 35 per cent people of Rangpur region are suffering from hypertension against the national percentage from 25 to 35 in different regions of the country.

"Any person can suffer from HBP, especially after 45, when problems may occur in blood circulation process creating hypertension, uneasiness and illness situation," he said suggesting HBP patients to checkup blood pressure regularly and keep it under control.

Dr. Joynal Abedin laid emphasis on controlling hypertension by regularly taking medicines and appropriate foods, walking and physical exercise to avoid heart attacks, stroke and kidney ailments for leading safer life with sound health.
