BOGURA, Dec 11: Radish growers in all the 12 upazilas of the district are delighted over the fair prices this season.

Sources said radish is a popular item among the growers in winter season.

High market demand encourages the farmers to cultivate the item on vast tract of land.

More than 1,200 peasants in the district are engaged with the production of the vegetable this season, said sub-assistance agriculture officer of the DAE Faridur Rahman.

The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has taken an elaborate programme to boost the cultivation of the item across the area.

In a recent visit at Mohasthan Haat under Shibganj upazila this correspondent found each kg of fresh radish is being sold at Tk 20 to Tk 25 in the retail market whereas Tk 15 to Tk 18 is the wholesale rate.

Moreover, a good number of growers said they usually spend Tk 5.0 to Tk 7.0 to produce a kg of radish.

To cultivate a bigha of land the farmers spend Tk 15,000 to Tk 17,000 and they hope to make profit of Tk 30,000 to Tk 50,000, said Jamal Sarker of Shibganj upazila.

Cultivators use both chemical and organic fartilsers in the radish as per suggestion of concerned agro officials.
