Food Department procures 16,374 tonnes of rice from Sylhet division

SYLHET, July 04: The Food Department has already procured 16,374 tonnes of rice from Sylhet division against the 20,162 tonnes of rice target.

The procured quantity includes 1,512 tonnes parboiled rice and 2,816 tonnes Atap from Sylhet, 921 tonnes parboiled and 846 tonnes Atap from Moulvibazar, 1,871 tonnes parboiled and 711 tonnes Atap from Habiganj and 1206 tonnes parboiled and 6,492 tonnes Atap rice from Sunamganj district.

The procurement programme would continue till August.

Contracts were signed with the millers for supply through 44 purchasing centres in the regions, sources said.

Purchasing rate is Tk 37 per kg for Atap and Tk 38 for parboiled rice.

The authority is hopeful of achieving the target this time, as the yield was good due to favourable weather almost whole the Boro season.
