BOGURA, Dec 30: A bamboo bridge on the Nagor river in Horinmara area of Kundagram union under Adamdighi upazila is the only means for hundreds of commuters.

Due to absence of a concrete bridge over the river the residents of the area are facing serious problems.

A good number of students have to cross the fragile bridge everyday at great risk.

Locals said the people of Harinmara, Chapapur, Jhakor, Parshon and Boribarta and some other villages of Chapapur union of the upazila use the bamboo bridge for their daily commute.

But the bridge has turned risky as a large number of people use it daily, they added.

Around 1,000 students of the area face great difficulty in attending their respective institutions, said assistant professor of Jalal Uddin College Abdul Hai.

The authority concerned should construct a bridge to remove this misery of villagers as soon as possible, he added.

A student of Chapapur Government Primary School said he lives in other side of the river but their school is in Harinmara. So he needs to use the bridge every day.

The schoolboy said he has to walk around three and a half km more to reach the school if he wants to avoid the bridge.

Local trader Hanna Pramanik said it is difficult to take agro product to nearby markets.

Every year, villagers construct a bamboo bridge on their own, he added.

Chairman of Chapapur union Samsul Islam said he informed the higher authority about the present situation but failed to receive any response.

If a concrete bridge is built on the river, villagers would be benefitted, he added.

Adamdighi upazila engineer Abdul Matin said he sent a letter to the higher authority for a concrete bridge over the river.

The official said he expects an urgent response from the authority concerned.
