Freshers' debate contest ends at RU

RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY, Apr 01: A 17-day debate competition titled 'Rajshahi University Freshers' Debate Championship-2018' concluded on Saturday evening at the Shahid Smrity Sangrahasala ground.

The Group of Liberal Debtors (GOLD) Bangladesh organised the event on March 14. A total of 50 teams of different departments took part in the contest, a press release said. The debate adjudicators declared Genetic Engineering and Bio-Technology Depart-ment (opposition party) as champion with Fahmida Begum as best speaker of the final. Sadhon Mukharjee was the debater of the tournament.

The subject of the final session of the contest was 'This parliament thinks that the term woman is the main obstacle to women's development'.

Prof Shariful Islam of Information Science and Library Management Department, Farzana Rahman of Folklore Department and Dr Aminul Islam of Sociology Department were adjudicators while Mamun Abdul Qaiyum of Mass Communication and Journalism Department was the speaker.

Later, Prof Sadequl Arefin Matin, chairperson of Social Work Department distributed the crests and certificates among the debaters.
