Garlic cultivation progressing fast in Bogura

BOGURA, Dec 12: Commercial garlic cultivation is progressing fast across the district.

A good number of peasants said garlic farming is profitable.

Repeated bumper yield and fair market prices encourage new growers to cultivate the spice crop.

The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office source said some 900 hectares of land have been brought under the farming of garlic in the district this season.

Meanwhile, the DAE has distributed quality seeds and DAP and MoP fertilisers as incentive among the farmers to make the farming programme a success.

Anisur Rahman of Jhakor village under Adamdighi upazila said he has planted garlic on four decimals of land spending Tk 2,000 this season.

The farmer said he is expecting a good yield this season.

Sub-assistance agriculture officer of DAE Faridur Rahman said garlic cultivation will continue till the end of December.

Farmer Aminur Hossain of Sibganj upazila said he cultivating garlic on two decimals of land this year.

DAE officials said growers should expand the production of garlic for profit.
