Hailstorms affect Boro paddy in Sylhet div

SYLHET, Apr 02: Hailstorms accompanied by rain over the last two days have affected the standing Boro paddy in the Sylhet region.
Official sources said the situation is worst in Sunamganj district.
A total about 29,000 hectares of land were affected in Sunamganj, an official said on Tuesday afternoon.
Deputy Director of DAE, Sunamganj, Bashir Ahmed said it would take some time to ascertain the extent of loss. According to preliminary reports, crops on about 29,000 hectares were affected in the district.
A total of 224,000 hectares of land have been brought under the cultivation of Boro paddy this year.
The hails also caused damage to standing crops in Sylhet, Moulvibazar and Habiganj districts, an official at the DAE's Sylhet divisional office said.
