High prices delight Bogura pointed gourd farmers

BOGURA, Apr 10: Pointed gourd farmers of the district are delighted over the present market price.

Each maund of the produce is being sold at Tk 1600 to Tk 1800 in the local wholesale market.

On a visit at the Mohasthan Kitchen Market this correspondent found a good number of pointed gourd farmers were waiting for customers. The vegetable is being sold at Tk 40 to Tk 45, while their average production cost of the same amount is Tk 10 to Tk 12.

"I have cultivated pointed gourd on 23 decimals of land this season spending Tk 3,900," said farmer Aminur Rahman of Boro Narayanpur village under Shibganj upazila. The grower further said he has already sold five maunds of the produce and made a profit of Tk 8,000.

Sub-assistance agriculture officer Faridur Rahman said pointed gourd farming is profitable. Growers should expand its cultivation.

The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said over 480 hectares of land have been brought under the farming of pointed gourd this season.
