BOGURA, Nov 07: Cauliflower growers in the district are earning good profit this season due good output and high market prices.

More than 2,000 farmers of Sariakanndi, Sherpur, Shibganj, Sonatola, Shajhanpur and Dhunot upazilas of the district cultivated the tasty vegetable this year.

Each large cauliflower is selling at Tk 40 to Tk 50, medium one at Tk 30 to Tk 35 and small ones at Tk 15 to Tk 20 in the local kitchen markets.

According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources, growers have been provided all kinds of support from the department.

DAE officials said cultivators show more interest in farming cauliflower as it requires low production cost and ensures a healthy return.

Farmer Amir Hossain of Shibganj upazila said he has planted 3,600 saplings of cauliflower on 35 decimals of land spending Tk 32,000 this season.

He has already sold some 1,200 cauliflowers in the local haat at Tk 36,000 and expecting to earn Tk 72,000 from the rest of the produce.

Trader Hannan in the district said his earning has increased for cauliflower.

Deputy Director of DAE Protul Chandra Sarker said cauliflower production is popular among the grassroots growers in the district for high demand.
