JHENIDAH, Oct 24: Hydraulic horns have made life intolerable in Jhenidah, leaving people helpless as no steps to stop them are yet to be taken by the authorities concerned.

Blowing of forbidden hydraulic horns in vehicles is the most harmful among all categories of sound pollution that people experience here, said Dr Rashed Ali Morol, Sr. Consultant (ENT), Sadar hospital, Jhenidah.

Due to using hydraulic horns number of hypertension patients is alarmingly increasing in the district.

Hydraulic horns, at present, are making such a horrid sound that a patient of high blood-pressure can tolerate it no way, Dr Morol added.

If use of hydraulic horns is not stopped on an urgent basis, the nation will fall into a crippling situation in near future, he further added.

Though a ruling issued by High Court why use of hydraulic horns will not be stopped, it brought no visible impact over the mindless use of the wrecking device across the country.

Unless the government put a stop to the usage of killer hydraulic horns, our country is unlike to be saved from an insufferable situation.

Md Toriqul Islam, assistant professor in Abdur Rouf Degree College, told this correspondent, "When a hydraulic horn is blown, then I am to stand helpless having nothing to do but taking a lot of pain."

Many people opined that If Inspector General of Police issued a strict order to launch a drive against use of hydraulic horns like the law-enforcers conducted drives against unlicensed motorcycles making the move a grand success across the country, blowing of devastating hydraulic horns could totally be stopped.

It would relieve numerous people in agony of the curse of sound pollution from hydraulic horns, they also viewed.

Unlike in Bangladesh, this type of horn is hardly used in civilized countries across the globe, reliable sources said.

Hydraulic horns are basically made in India to keep wild elephants away from public places and corn fields.

However, use of these horns in vehicles is forbidden there, the source added.
