Jackfruits growing on 500 hectares in Joypurhat

JOYPURHAT, Apr 08: Juicy jackfruits are growing on 500 hectares of land in the district this season.
Officials at the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said they expect a bumper yield in the five upazilas of the district.
Sub-assistant agriculture officer of DAE Azizur Rahman said field-level officials are monitoring the jackfruit orchards. The officials help the growers in every way possible so that they can get their desired production.
Farmer Shahadat Hossain of Diyol village under Akkelpur upazila of the district said he is cultivating jackfruits on a two bigha orchard spending Tk 30,000.
The farmer said he expects around 1,200 fruits from the orchard.
Trader Abdul Khaleq of Antaher village under Panchbibi upazila said he has purchased a jackfruit orchard in his village at the cost of Tk 60,000. If weather condition and market prices remain favourable, he hopes to make a profit of over Tk 50,000.
