The Jamuna river devours a village in the Goriabari area under Kalihati Upazila — FE Photo TANGAIL, Sept 31: Erosion by the Jamuna river has taken a serious turn in the district. Garilabari village has become vulnerable.
According to sources, the river has engulfed some dwelling houses over the last few days.
Till Sunday about 150 metres of Jamuna embankment have already been damaged.
A good number of locals said some influential people of the area have been lifting sand illegally from the riverbed.
If the situation continues for the next few days many houses and other establishments will go under water, they added.
