Jashore, Kushtia dengue situation still alarming, improvement in Sylhet

JHENIDAH, Sept 02: Dengue-affected patients are still getting admitted to hospitals in Jashore, Kushtia and Jhenidah districts.

Hospital sources said the situation is still alarming in Jashore.

In the last 24 hours, some 72 patients were admitted to different hospitals of the district including 250-bed hospital, seven upazila health complexes and other private clinics.

A total of 1,449 dengue patients have been identified in the district till Monday. Among them, 72 were released from the hospitals.

The dengue situation is improving in Kushtia.

There are 40 dengue-affected patients admitted to the Kushtia 250-bed Hospital now whereas a total of 566 patients were admitted here at the initial stage of the outbreak.

Residential Medical Officer (RMO) of the Kushtia 250-bed Hospital Dr Tapos Kumar Sarker said in the last 24 hours 12 patients took admission here.

In Jhenidah, there are 32 dengue patients admitted to the Sadar hospital.

In the last 24 hours only two patients were admitted here in the Sadar hospital.

Earlier a woman of Kailganj upazila died of dengue.

RMO, Jhenidah Sadar Hospital, Dr Apurba Kumar Saha, said the hospital admitted a total of 266 dengue patients till Monday.

The number of dengue patients was decreasing in the district, he added.

Meanwhile, Our Correspondent from Sylhet writes: A total of nine dengue patients were admitted to the different hospitals in Sylhet division during the last 24 hours ended at 8: 00 am on Monday.

With this, the situation showed further improvement in the region as it remained almost static for the last few days.

Of the patients who got admitted in 24 hours till Monday morning, five people were admitted into the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital (SOMCH) while one each were admitted into the Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Habiganj and Sunamganj district hospitals.

Ten patients were admitted on the previous day.

Director of Health, Sylhet Debpada Roy told this correspondent on Monday afternoon the number of dengue patients has come down below 10 a day.

There has been much improvement in the situation all over the division, he added.

The senior official informed further, 783 had so far been diagnosed as dengue patients in Sylhet division and, 752 of them had been released from the hospitals on completion of necessary treatment.

Meanwhile, of the 31 patients, highest 19 are now under treatment at the SOMCH while three are at the Sylhet district's private hospitals, seven at the Moulvibazar and two at Habiganj district hospitals.

No new dengue patient has been indentified in Sunamganj in the last few days, the official added.
