Kishoreganj, Habiganj road accidents claim six lives

KISHOREGANJ, Apr 24 (UNB): At least four people were killed following a head on collision between a truck and an auto-rickshaw on the Bhairab-Kishoreganj road in Kaliprasad area on Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as auto-rickshaw driver Sanaullah, Monwar Hossain, 35, Masud Mia, 42 and Sajib Mia, 47. All of the victims are from Paizanpur and Kailag villages in Bajitpur upazila.

The accident took place when a Kishoreganj-bound truck collided with the auto-rickshaw in Gazirtek area around 11.00am leaving the auto-rickshaw driver dead on the spot and injuring five others, police said quoting witnesses.

The injured were rushed to the upazila health complex from where three severely injured were referred to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for better treatment.

On way to DMCH, the trio died, said AKM Kaiser, officer-in-charge of Bhairab Highway Police Station.

The bodies would be handed over to their relatives after autopsies, he added.

Meanwhile, BSS adds: In Habiganj, two people were killed and three others injured as a covered van hit them in Rokonpur area on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway under Nabiganj upazila of the district on Tuesday morning.

The deceased were identified as Sohel Ahamed of Debidar upazila in Cumilla district and Nanu Miah, a resident of Chunarughat upazila in Habiganj district.

Police said the accident occurred in the area at about 9.00 am when the covered van hit them as they were repairing a truck, leaving truck driver Sohel dead on the spit and four others injured.

The injured were sent to the Zila Sadar Hospital where Nanu Miah succumbed to his injuries.
