Lemon production on the rise in Panchagarh

PANCHAGARH, May 29 (BSS): Cultivation of lemon is becoming popular among the farmers in all five upazilas of the district as it has proved more profitable recently.

The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) office sources said a total of 250 bighas of land have been brought under lemon cultivation this year.

Many farmers in the district have become self-reliant and changed their lot through lemon cultivation during the last few years. Currently, farmers of Panchagargh district are cultivating various high yielding of lemon commercially.

Hirmbo Chandra, a lemon cultivator of Shahapara village under Debiganj upazila said, "I have been getting handsome profit through cultivation of lemon on commercial basis for the last several years.

Another lemon cultivator Akter Ali of Sabouspara village under Boda upazila said, "I have cultivated lemon on three bighas of land spending Tk 45,000. I am expecting to earn Tk 70,000 profit from the produce after meeting all expenditures.
