Lightning kills three in Bagerhat, Barguna

BAGERHAT, June 19 (UNB): Two people, including a woman, were killed and two others injured in separate lightning strikes in Morelganj and Sadar upazilas on Tuesday.

In Morelganj, Bikash Mridha, 50, son of Romen Mridha of Kumarijola village, was killed and Subhash Talukder, 48, injured as they were struck by a thunderbolt at noon.

They were working in a fish enclosure when a thunderbolt bore down on them, leaving them severely injured.

Bikash was declared dead at Sadar Hospital.

In Sadar upazila, housewife Shampa Rani Mondal was severely injured after being hit by lightning when she went to a field to call the cattlehead home amid rain.

Bemorta union ciuncil chairman Monwar Hossain said after being taken to the hospital, doctors declared Shampa dead.

BSS adds: In Barguna, a youth was killed by thunderbolt at Kalipur village under Pathorghata upazila of the district last night.

The victim was identified as Hasibul Islam Hasib, 17, son of Nasir Mia of the village under Kathaltoli union of the upazila.
