MAGURA, Apr 16: Bumper production and fair price have brought smile on the faces of Magura wheat growers this year.
Farmers sources informed, wheat harvesting has already been completed in the district.
A bumper production has been achieved in the district and present price of wheat is high in the market, the sources added.
Moreover, last year wheat cultivation was badly affected in the district due to blast disease. This year wheat production is completely free from blast disease.
Department of agriculture extension (DAE) Magura sources informed, they brought 4,870 hectares of land under wheat cultivation in the district this season. A bumper production has been achieved which is 14,550 metric tonnes.
Miraj Shekh, a farmer of village Kullia under Magura sadar upazila told this correspondent, 'I brought two bighas of land under wheat cultivation this year and I have achieved 23 maunds of wheat. I have earned Tk 21 thousand by selling my wheat. My production cost was Tk 08 thousand. That is my profit is Tk 13 thousand'.
Abul Hossen, a farmer of village Jagla under Magura sadar upazila said, 'This year we are selling wheat at Tk 940 per maund as against Tk 820 last year . On the other hand, our production is higher this year compared to last year due to favourable weather. Moreover, this year I did not spend any money for irrigation and insecticides. In the coming year I shall extend my wheat cultivation'.
Magura DAE official Shohrab Hossen said earlier Magura wheat farmers were badly affected due to blast attack. This year they have achieved a bumper production as there was no blast attack in the fields.
Farmers are getting fair price of wheat. Existing situation will bring a positive impact on wheat cultivation in the district in the coming year, he said.
