Marginal peasants cultivate Boro paddy in Natore Boral basin

NATORE, Jan 27: A good number of landless poor and marginal peasants are cultivating Boro on the Boral basin in the district.

The farmers are expecting to bring more than 500 hectares of river basin under the paddy cultivation this season if the weather condition remains favourable.

To irrigate the paddy approximately, the authority concerned has set up shallow machine in measure distance so that they can get a good output, said farmer Lokman Hossain of Bagatipara upazila. Cultivators get a good output of the crop every year.

Hundreds of poor and landless peasants from Bagatipara, Boraigram, Chatmohor, Bangura and Faridpur upazilas are mostly depend on the Boral River basin during the dry season as they have no own land. They make a good profit spending trifling capital.

The peasants of the area use the switch gate as well as protection dyke for rendering the water system according to the demand of the crops

"I cultivate Boro on two bighas of land every year and get a good profit," said farmer Anarul Islam under Boraigram upazila. "The river basin is blessing for my family members in every dry season." he added.

Central member of Boral River Preservation Committee Abdul Karim said the farmers are becoming self-reliant growing paddy in the river basis every year. If they have been provided necessary support they would able to produce a good paddy output, he added.
