Number of dengue patients increasing across Rajshahi

Situation improves in Rangpur, Sylhet, Cumilla

BOGURA, Aug 24: The number of dengue patients is increasing across the Rajshahi division.

People of the division started being affected with the fever from the July and it is continuing alarmingly. The shortage of dengue kit is hampering the treatment, said civil surgeon officials.

In Bogura, Civil Surgeon Dr Gosul Azim Chowdhury said dengue fever has been infected 21 in the last 24 hours. Some 83 are taking treatment across the district including 12 upazila health complexes. A total 787 people have already affected with the disease.

Civil Surgeon official again said many upazila health complexes do not have pathology laboratories, which will put dengue patients in more trouble.

Only few of the twelve upazila health complexes have pathological test facilities. The 500-bed Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital is now handling over 1,100 patients, 55 of them dengue patients.

In Pabna General Hospital, some 25 dengue patients were taking treatment across the region. Dengue fever has been infected 09 in the last 24 hours. A total 421 people have already affected with the fever.

The patients of rural and remote areas are given suggestions about getting rid of dengue fever. The doctors' holidays have been cancelled to serve the patients.

Civil Surgeon Dr Zahid Nazrul Choudhury of Chapainawabganj said some four people have been infected with dengue fever in the last 24 hours. Some 32 are taking treatment across the district. A total 215 people have already affected with the fever.

To avoid the fever the people are using mosquitpo nets both at day and night as the mosquito bites at dusk and evening.

Civil Surgeon Dr Md Zahidul Islam of Siraganj district said dengue fever has been infected five in the last 24 hours. Some 59 are taking treatment across the district. A total 510 people have already affected with the fever.

Civil Surgeon Dr Shams Uddin of Joypurhar said dengue fever has infected two persons in the last 24 hours. Some five persons are taking treatment across the district. A total 74 people have already affected with the fever.

The concerned authority said, if the number of patients continues to rise, it will be a huge challenge for the doctors and nurses.

Civil Surgeon Dr Md Azizul Islam Civil of Natore said dengue fever has been infected one in the last 24 hours. Some three persons are taking treatment across the district. A total 156 people have already been affected.

Civil Surgeon Dr Md Mumunul Haque of Naogaon said dengue fever has been infected two in the last 24 hours. Some five persons are taking treatment across the district among them - three at sadar hospital and some two are in Shapaher upazila health complex. A total 213 people have already affected with the fever.

Meanwhile, Our Rangpur Correspondent writes: The number of dengue affected patients is on the decline in the district.

At present, some 40 dengue affected patients are undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) while some are undergoing treatment outside RMCH. Many were discharged after treatment, sources said.

However, most of the patients carried it from outside the district while some have been attacked with the disease in Rangpur and its adjacent districts.

Sources said though the intensity of dengue fever has decreased across the district, people are still passing thei days in anxiety.

Sources at several hospitals, clinics and dialogistic centres said a good number of panicked people are coming for dengue tests. But the hospital authorities are doing the test only when they find it necessary, sources added.

Shefali, a dengue patient who had been undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital said she was affected by dengue fever after visiting Dhaka. Many other patients said they went to Dhaka before being affected.

However, there was no report of admission of any dengue patient at any upazila-level health complex or hospital.

"We have adequate preparation to tackle any adverse situation," said acting director RMCH Dr, Sultan Ahmed. They also have no shortage of dengue detection kits, he added.

Our Sylhet Correspondent adds: Eight dengue patients were admitted to different hospitals in the Sylhet region, including the divisional city in the last 24 hours till Saturday morning. The number was 16 on Friday.

Among the patients admitted on Saturday, seven were admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital (SOMCH) while one was admitted to a private hospital in Sylhet. But no new patient came for admission to Moulvibazar, Habiganj or Sunamganj district hospitals during the last 24 hours, ending at 8:00am.

With this, the overall dengue situation showed much improvement, officials said.

Director of Health, Sylhet Debpada Roy told this correspondent this afternoon the number of dengue patients has been on decline for the last few days. We found no new patient from the three districts, he said, adding, it is a good sign.

Referring a latest report on the region, the senior official also informed, since the beginning this time, 698 had so far been diagnosed as dengue patients in Sylhet division and 646 of them had been released after they were cured.

Fifty two dengue patients were now under treatment at the different hospitals including highest 27 at the SOMCH, five in Sylhet district hospitals, five in Moulvibazar, 12 in Habiganj and three in Sunamganj, the divisional director said.

He said there had been no death report in any of the districts. Except some few ones most of the patients had travelled to Dhaka and got infected there before getting admitted into the hospitals here. However, many people got infected locally.

The official also claimed there has been no shortage of the dengue testing kits and saline in Sylhet region.

Our Correspondent from Cumilla writes: The number of dengue patient has started to decrease in the district. Some 18 patients were admitted to government-private hospitals in the district, including Cumilla Medical College Hospital (CMC), in the last 24 hours till noon on Saturday.

About 40 patients were admitted within 24 hours in the last five days ago. This information has been confirmed by Cumilla District Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman.

Dr Rahman said the number of dengue patients in Cumilla has started to decrease. That's good news for us. However, everyone should always be careful about dengue. Everyone has to work together to prevent dengue.

He said so far 961 patients have been admitted to government-private hospitals in Cumilla due to dengue.

At present, 60 patients are admitted to different hospitals in the district including CMC Hospital. So far, 901 patients have received medical clearance from Cumilla. However, no dengue patient died while undergoing treatment in Cumilla.

CMCH sources said so far 709 patients have been admitted to CMC Hospital after suffering from dengue. Of them, 668 patients returned home from CMC Hospital after treatment.

A total of five patients were admitted on Saturday morning to noon. At present, 41 patients are undergoing treatment at CMCH.
