Number of dengue patients on the decline in Rajshahi, Sylhet, Tangail

RAJSHAHI, Aug 21: The number of dengue patients is decreasing in Rashahi and Sylhet districts.

According to sources at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH), 14 patients were admitted to the hospital in the last 24 hours. Eighteen of 40 dengue patients who were taking treatment at the hospital were released.

Dr Saiful Ferdous, deputy director of RMCH, said so far 482 patients were admitted at RMCH with dengue of whom 441 have been released after treatment. One dengue patient died in the district while one is getting treatment at ICU.

Sources said, due to precautionary measures and anti-dengue campaign, people have become conscious. They were keeping their environment clean so that Aedes mosquitoes cannot breed. They were also taking measures so that no mosquito can bite them.

Rajshahi City Corporation and Rajshahi Metropolitan Police were active to take measures to spray and fumigate different spots in the city.

AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation has taken up steps to distribute leaflets and handbills to devotees of mosques, office staff, train and bus passengers and school and college students of informing them of how to keep the neighborhoods clean.

Our Correspondent from Sylhet writes: A total of 11 dengue patients were admitted to the different hospitals in the Sylhet division including the divisional city during the last 24 hours till Wednesday morning, officials informed. It was 18 on the previous day.

Of the admitted patients, seven were admitted to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital (SOMCH) while three are at the Habiganj District Hospital and other one at a private hospital in Sylhet city.

No new patient was admitted to hospitals at the Moulvibazar and Sunamganj districts during the last 24 hours.

Contacted, the divisional Director of Health, Sylhet Debpada Roy told this correspondent on Wednesday the number of dengue patients has been on the decline for the last few days. Eleven patients were admitted today against 18 on the previous day.

The official informed that so far 651 were diagnosed as dengue patients in Sylhet division.

Fifty dengue patients were under treatment at the different hospitals including highest 30 at the SOMCH, three in Sylhet district hospitals, six in Moulvibazar, nine in Habiganj and two in Sunamganj district, the source added.

Meanwhile, 601 patients had been released after they were cured. There had been no report of death in any of the districts. Most of the patients had travelled the capital and got infected there before getting admitted to the hospitals here.

Sources said, however, some people got infected locally.

There has been no shortage of the dengue testing kits and saline in Sylhet region, the official claimed.

It may be stated, a physician of the SOMCH and the Civil Surgeon of Habiganj died of dengue in the capital.

Our Tangail correspondent adds: A total of 11 dengue-affected patients have been admitted to different clinics and hospitals here in the last 24 hours.

Among them five were admitted at the Tangail General Hospital and six others at the different clinics of the district town.

The number of dengue patients is decreasing in the district, the District Civil Surgeon office said.

At present a total of 56 dengue patients are undergoing treatment at Tangail General Hospital while some are taking treatment another hospitals and clinics.

Some 365 people released from hospitals.

Civil Surgeon Dr Md Sharif Hossain Khan said the situation is improving and there is no shortage of kits.
