SYLHET, June 18: Only one official at the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Sunamganj, has been performing all the duties of several posts since long.
He is the head assistant as well as assistant cashier (additional charge) for two years.
Moreover, he has been serving the office as the office assistant as well as upper division clerk at Shulla upazila office for the last 10 years.
Sharaf Uddin Mukul is also the office assistant and upper division clerk at Derai upazila.
Out of 11 posts, eight of the upper division assistant cum accountant had been lying vacant in the district while of the 24 posts of office assistants, 15 had been lying vacant at Sunamganj DAE office.
On the other hand 250 posts employees out of the total of 440 on different upazila offices of DAE had been lying vacant causing much for the office works.
These include two posts of additional deputy director, two posts of upazila agriculture officers, one post of agriculture engineer, 18 out 22 posts of agriculture extension officers, assistant extension officers and 148 out of 263 posts of deputy assistant plant protection officers.
Besides, two posts of personal assistants, one store keeper, two out of 11 posts of spare mechanic, 16 out of 18 office assistants, six out of 12 security guards, one cleaner and 28 out of 50 posts of gardeners had been lying vacant.
More than 50 per cent posts had long been lying vacant causing much, said deputy director of DAE Sunamganj office Bashir Ahmed.
A good number of staff on transfer from other regions often avoid to join in the region, he added.
