TANGAIL, Aug 24: Onion prices have shot up abnormally in the district.

One kg of onion is being sold at Tk 50 to Tk 60 in the local markets, which was sold Tk 30 to Tk 35 per kg before of Eid.

An onion retailer Hasan Miah of Park Moydan Bazar said, "After Eid vacation onion price has increased significantly in the markets."

Supply of the spice crop is sufficient in the wholesale market, but price is high, he added.

Moreover, a group of wholesalers here said supply shortage is the main reason behind the situation.

A primary schoolteacher in the district Sadar upazila told this correspondent, "There was no valid reason to increase the price of the necessary kitchen item. The authority concerned should take immediate step in this connection."
