Radish harvest starts across Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI, Nov 07: Harvest of early cultivated winter radish has started across the district.

A good number of farmers said early winter radish is profitable due to fair prices and high market demand.

The popular vegetable is being sold at Tk 40 in the retail market, they added.

Abdur Rahman of Ketkibari union under Domar upazila said he cultivated radish in one bigha of land and got some 80 maunds of production.

The grower said he sold his total produce at Tk 80,000 where his production cost was Tk 20,000.

He said radish needs 60 days to be harvested after the sprinkling its seeds on the land.

Sources said radish may even be cultivated in sandy land.

Many people in the 'char' area has attained financial solvency by growing radish commercially.
