Rangpur rural people get health services from community clinics

RANGPUR, Oct 16 (BSS): The community clinics in the district have appeared as blessings for rural people as they get health services with free medicines for some common health problems from those.

The trained Community Health Care Providers (CHCPs) and Community Skilled Birth Attendants (CSBAs) are also conducting safe deliveries of pregnant women with providing normal treatments in the community clinics.

"Over 2.19 million people of all ages received health services from 309 community clinics in the district where 256 normal deliveries of pregnant mothers were conducted safely last year alone," said Civil Surgeon Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam.

Around 2.0 million rural people got health services from these community clinics where 234 safe deliveries were done in 2016 while 1.76 million people received health services and 102 deliveries were conducted in 2015, he said.

"Increasing number of men, women, pregnant women, adolescents, children and babies are rushing to these clinics for getting free medicines for common ailments," Dr Islam said.

The clinics are also providing maternal, neonatal and reproductive healthcare services along with offering a range of services for puberty illness, family planning, hygiene and nutritional education, micro-nutrient supplements and establishing referral linkage with higher facilities, he also said.

"The CHCPs are referring autistic children and children with special needs to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for specialised treatment," Dr Islam added.

CHCP Nazma Khatun at Gokulpur Community Clinic in Sadar upazila said 15,000 to 16,000 patients are getting health services and medicines from the clinic with 40 people on an average a day.

While talking to the news agency at the clinic, one Shahana said, "I am happy to get suggestions after my health check up at the clinic."

CHCP Shahjada Sarder at Uttarpara Community Clinic under Badarganj upazila said 16,000 to 17,000 common people are receiving health services and medicines there every year.

After getting medical check-ups, treatments and medicines at the clinic, young girl Bula Begum 18, housewife Shakila Akhter, school student Mukul Roy, 15, and farm-labourer Kuddus, 35 expressed their satisfaction.

Another CHCP Nadira Banu at Uttar Mominpur Community Clinic in Sadar upazila said she conducted 20 safe deliveries at her clinic in last two years.

Milan Chandra, CHCP at Gutirdanga Community Clinic under Badarganj upazila, said safe deliveries of some 200 mothers were conducted safely with assistance of LAMB Hospital there last year.

"Along with conducting safe deliveries, we are providing health services with cost-free medicines to around 15,000 to 16,000 common people every year in the community clinic," Milan added. s
