MAGURA, Dec 27: High yielding rapeseed, another variety of mustard, farming is gaining popularity among the farmers of the district.

Farmers' sources said the short duration crop is generally cultivated between the gap of Aman and Boro cultivation. Around eight maunds of production can be possible from a bigha of land.

Rapeseed is sold at Tk 2500 to Tk 2600 per maund in the market.

Magura DAE sources said a total of 2,350 hectares of land have been brought under the oilseed cultivation in the district.

Farmer Atiq Ali of Nanduali village under Magura Sadar said he had made a profit of Tk 15,000 last year from rapeseed farming on one bigha of land. "I have brought two bighas of land under the oilseed farming this season", he said.

DAE official Badrul Hasan said cultivation of high yielding rapeseed is increasing in the area. Low production cost and fair price have been encouraging the farmers to grow the crop every season.
