Re-excavation of Amdanga canal starts in Bhabadah

JASHORE, Apr 08: To relieve the people living in waterlogged Bhabadah, re-excavation of the Amdanga canal was inaugurated on Sunday.
MM Mahmudur Rahman, UNO of Abhaynagar, inaugurated the development programme.
A vast area of portion of Sadar and Abhaynagar, Monirampur and Keshabpur upazilas of Jashore, Dumuria of Khulna and Tala of Satkhira district go under deep water due to several sluice gates constructing in 60s to control the water of the Sree river.
The inaugural programme was attended, among others, by executive engineer of the Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation, Jashore region, Mahbub Alam, Chairman of Abhaynagar upazila council Nurul Haque Mollah, former chairman of Nawapara Municipality Enamul Haque Babul and former chairman of Abhaynagar upazila Abdul Maleq.
The BADC executive engineer said he took initiative to re-excavate the canal after reading news stories covered in various newspapers. "I took the initiative to relieve the affected-people from water stagnation problem", he added.
