Reconstruction of two roads in Sylhet region soon

SYLHET, June 23: At last two important roads in Sylhet region would be developed and reconstructed under a major project.

Both the roads had long been in precarious conditions due to negligence of the authority concerned and lack of initiatives in fund allocation, , a good number of locals said.

The ECNEC at its meeting on May 29 last approved the project for widening and major reconstruction work of the Sylhet-Sultanpur-Balaganj road at a cost of Tk 662.1 million and Tk 411.13 million for the Fenchuganj-Maijgaon-Palbari-road, which links the alternative the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway, an official said.

The roads link road communication of several upazilas of Sylhet and Moulvibazar districts, like Dakshin Surma, Moglabazar, Fenchuganj, Rajnagar and Moulvibazar Sadar.

Besides, several power stations, both public and private as well as the state-run Shahjalal Fertiliser Company are linked with the Fenchuganj-Maijgaon-Palbari-road.

The Roads and Highways Department would float tenders for the roads in weeks.

However, it would take few months to start the physical works on the roads to complete formalities at different levels, the official added.

Demanding quality work, the locals expressed the hope that their sufferings would see an end with implementation of the said road reconstruction projects.
