RHD starts dev work on important Sylhet roads involving Tk 1.2b

SYLHET, Dec 31: Development work of important roads in Sylhet district began last week at a total cost of Tk 1.2 billion.

Implementation of the long-desired work on the regional roads would reduce sufferings of the locals, since these were in a sorry state for long, some locals said.

Among the projects, work on the Fenchuganj-Palbari road via Maijgaon has already started.

The road is important as it connects the alternate Dhaka-Sylhet Highway and the country's largest fertiliser factory Shahjalal Fertliser Factory in Fenchuganj.

The Roads and Highways Department (RHD) is implementing the project.

The road will be 18-feet wide in place of existing 12 feet.

The officials in presence of locals including the lawmaker Mahmud Us Samad Chowdhury inaugurated the work last week.

The same way, reconstruction of another important Balaganj-Sultanpur road started with a targeted expenditure of Tk 760 million, an official at the RHD informed.

The road connects the neighbouring Moulvibazar district with large area of Sylhet. The work is expected to be completed by the end the current fiscal.
