Rice procurement drive going on in full swing in Sylhet division

SYLHET, June 24: The rice procurement drive is going on in full swing in Sylhet division with a target of 20,162 tonnes.
Some 8012 tonnes of parboiled to be collected through 42 millers and the rest 12,150 tonnes of Atap through 415 contracted millers, informed an official in the Sylhet divisional office of the Food Department.
The procured quantity includes some 1,512 tonnes of parboiled rice and 1,970 tonnes of Atap in Sylhet, 881 tonnes of parboiled and 643 tonnes of Atap in Moulvibazar, 1339 tonnes parboiled and 388 tonnes Atap in Habiganj and 1,181 tonnes parboiled and 4,259 tonnes of Atap in Sunamganj.
The total stood at 4,913 tonnes of parboiled and 7,260 tonnes of Atap rice.
The procurement programme would continue till August.
Contracts were signed with the millers for the supply through 44 purchasing centres in the region at Tk 37 per kg for parboiled and Tk 38 per kg for Atap rice, the official added.
The authority is hopeful of achieving the target this time, as the yield was good due to favourable weather almost whole the Boro season.
