Road accidents claim three lives in Narail, Sherpur districts

NARAIL, Jan 23 (BSS): A grandmother and her granddaughter were killed in a road accident at Dattapara Bus Stand on Narail-Lohagora road in Sadar upazila of the district on Tuesday noon.

Police and hospital sources said the accident occurred when a Kalnaghat bound truck hit a three-wheeler Easybike carrying the grandmother and granddaughter. The two were going to Narail from Nidinkhola village at the time of mishap.

The deceased were identified as Manoja Begum, 45, wife of Sirajul Islam and a resident of Bagdanga village under Habokhali union and her granddaughter Sadia, 3, daughter of Mashiur Rahman of Carikhada village in Sadar upazila.

Narail Sadar Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Anwar Hossen confirmed the incident.

Police seized the truck, but its driver managed to flee the scene. The bodies were sent to Narail Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem.

A case was filed in this connection.

Meanwhile, in Sherpur, one person was killed as a bus hit a battery-run easy bike in Julgaon area under Jhenaigati upazila of the district on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Ashraf Ali, 50, son of Ahammed Ali, a resident of Hasli-Batiagaon area of the upazila.

Police said the accident occurred when a Sherpur-bound bus hit the easy bike from behind in the area at about 12.30pm, leaving the easy bike passenger Ashraf critically injured.

Ashraf died on the way to the Zila Hospital.
