RU FF museum attracts people

RAJSHAHI, Dec 01: The Rajshahi University (RU) played a vital and glorious role in the liberation war.

More than a hundred teachers, students and officials sacrificed their lives in the war.

To pay a tribute and recall contribution of these martyrs, the university authorities set up several monuments and a museum on the campus.

The RU authorities established the Shahid Smriti Sangrashala on its premises on February 21, 1976.

It is the first and only martyr archives among the university campuses in the country where various belongings used by the martyrs are preserved.

Besides, mass graveyard at the eastern part of the university campus where the Pak military buried freedom fighters still bears the history of our Liberation War.

The museum consists of three galleries. The galleries begin with the early history of Bangladesh. The building actually comprises a cluster of some hall rooms, built with bricks without any plaster.

It remains open for the visitors till 9:00am to 2:00pm every day, Dilruba Khanom Prodhan, an official of the Shahid Smriti Sangrashala said, adding it has become a popular attraction.

Around 400 visitors came to visit the testimony of the martyrs' everyday, she added.

Recollecting the memory of the fighting scenario of liberation war RU authorities collected around 700 valuables memorabilia of the martyrs in the museum.

Over 3,000 books on anti-British movement from 1947 to the Liberation War, and 1971 of the museum were used by the M Phil and PhD researchers of the university.

Other galleries focus on the genocide carried out by the Pakistani army against the Bengali population named 'Operation Searchlight'.

Bengali intellectuals, students, and Awami League leaders were the main target of the operation.

The galleries display the weapons used by the Mukti Bahini, personal effects of many Mukti Bahini fighters and civilian victims of the atrocities committed by Pakistani forces, many donated by their families after the conflict.

Also displayed are remains of human skulls and bones retrieved from mass grave of civilians killed by Pakistani forces.

Shabash Bangladesh in RU is a symbol of youths' gallantry.
