RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY, July 14: With a view to thinking about the importance and expand of education related higher degree, Rajshahi University (RU) has established the Institute of Education and Research (IER) in 2000.
This is the first of the Northern region and second in the country after the IER of Dhaka University which was established in 1959. But RU has established this institute after introduced 43 departments, 7 faculties as well as two higher research institutions, sources added.
This institute is working to develop efficient professionals in the education sector of Bangladesh since its inception. It is a multi-disciplinary research led institution in the field of education in Bangladesh.
Since the inception the institute served M.Phil and Ph.D degree to 55 researchers till last year with eleven teachers is teaching now.
All departments of RU with four others higher institutes of the university uses IER's open laboratory for the purposes of survey and experimental research. It has a separate demonstration unit which consists with primary, secondary and higher secondary education at the university premises.
The institute has been providing teaching, training, and research guidance in order to prepare candidates for the degrees of Master of Education (M.Ed) and Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Education. Besides it provides courses of further study for those already qualified for teaching e.g. Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDEd).
IER director Prof. M. Ansar Uddin said that this institute ventilates the possible collaboration among the national, international, local and regional development partners, research institutions and corporate bodies in exploring funds, research grants, and financial and technical assistance. IER is helping the schools and colleges across the country especially in N-region to be manned with the trained teachers coming out of the institute.
