The initiators claimed that the library is the first in the country. The library has been enriched with more than 100 seed varieties and information of those.

In addition to the seed related information, the library showcases cultivation process.

President of Barendra Seed Bank and National Environment Award Winning Farmer Yousuf Ali, National Agriculture Award Winning Farmer Nur Muhammad and BARCIK Regional Coordinator Shahiddul Islam addressed the opening ceremony as resource persons. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Chowdhury Golam Rabbi, Valiant Freedom Fighter Abdur Razzaque, Headmaster of the school Altaf Hossain and Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer Emdadul Islam also spoke on the occasion.

In his remarks, farmer Yousuf Ali says main thrust of the library is to expand and spread knowledge among the young generation. He added that school, college and university level students need proper knowledge about the importance of indigenous seeds, farming process side by side with biodiversity, natural resource conservation and climate change issues so that they can contribute to this field.

Yousuf Ali opined that many native crops and vegetable varieties are gradually declining due to adverse impacts of climate change in the region including its vast Barind tract.
