Speakers for strict enforcement of laws to ensure safe food

Strict enforcement of the Consumer Right Protection Act - 2009 along with raising social awareness has become crucial to ensure supply of pure and safe food in local markets for saving public health, reports BSS.

Officials and civic rights activists made these observations at a discussion at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner in observance of the World Consumer Rights Day-2019 in Rangpur district town recently.

The district administration, Department of National Consumer Rights Protection and Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) jointly chalked out programmes in observance of the day.

Earlier, a rally with participation of officials of different government departments, activists of CAB, business community leaders, civil society members and local elite was brought out on the city streets.

Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Joynul Bari attended the discussion as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib in the chair.

Additional Divisional Commissioner (Revenue) Abu Taher Md. Sohel Rana, Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police for Rangpur Range Md. Mazid Ali and Divisional Deputy Director of the Department of National Consumer Rights Protection Khondker Mohammad Nurul Amin addressed as special guests.

President of Rangpur unit of CAB Abdur Rahman and its General Secretary Ahsanul Haque Tuhin also spoke on the occasion.

Assistant Director of the Department of National Consumer Rights Protection for Rangpur Afsana Pervin discussed various aspects of the CRP Act 2009 and 'Safe Food Act 2013' and government steps taken for strict enforcement of the laws.

The chief guest suggested for strengthening administrative and awareness raising activities to stop supply of adulterated foods to local markets for protecting consumer rights, public health and human lives to build a healthier nation.

The speakers urged business community people to become aware of severe consequences of marketing adulterated foods and stressed on ensuring state control to free the market from dishonesty for ensuring supply of pure and safe foodstuffs.
