Speakers stress awareness campaign among new generation against graft

SYLHET, Mar 04: Speakers at an event on Monday said the young people, specially the students of schools and colleges, should be made the real fighters for curbing corruption in the country for building a prosperous nation.

ACC Commissioner AFM Aminul Islam was the chief guest at the function in Sylhet for handing over awards to the members of best district and upazila committees against corruption.

Inspired by the ACC, these were formed with social activists, who volunteer awareness campaign and other activities against corruption.

The event was also addressed, among others, by the Additional Divisional Commissioners Mrinal Kanti Deb and Tahmidul Islam, Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police Joydeb Kumar Bhadra, Additional Commissioner of Police, SMP Paritosh Ghosh, and ACC Director Manirul Islam while Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Sylhet M Kazi Ebadul Islam chaired and Regional ACC Director Abdulla Al Zahid conducted the programme.

Sylhet District committee president Brig Gen Principal Jubayer Siddiquee (retd), General Secretary Belal Ahmed and Juri upazila committee president Md Tajul Islam were also present on the occasion.

The ACC commissioner said corruption eats up 4.0 per cent of GDP.

ACC has already started taking instant steps on the complaints lodged with toll free phone number 106, Mr Islam said, adding, there should be measures against personal as well as institutional corruption.

The speakers stressed massive awareness campaign against corruption among the new generation. Besides, exemplary punishment or measures must be visibly taken for personal and institutional corruption.

Sylhet Zila Durniti Protirodh Committee was adjudged the best district-level body in the division while Chhatak, Juri and Srimangal upazila committees were selected the best upazila-level ones in their respective districts.
