NAOGAON, Aug 24: Students of Ikrapara Government Primary School under Niamatpur upazila in the district are attending classes at the risk of their lives as the school building is in a dilapidated condition.

Teachers are taking classes under the open sky.

Moreover, there are over 200 students of the school but there are no toilet and drinking water facilities.

The school was established in 2007 and later "nationalised" in 2014.

The school has some five teachers, including the headteacher.

The school is being run in two shifts. Students of class one to three attend classes from 9.00 am to 12.00pm and the students from class four to five come to school at 12.00pm and stay until 4.00pm.

Some teachers said along the classroom shortage, the school is also suffering for lack of adequate number of benches.

Students often fell sick due to the heat in summer.

Students Jolie, Aliya, Sumna, Ekka and Furkan said they have no tubewell on the school premises.

Headteacher Rezaul Islam said educational activities are being hampered seriously due to lack of facilities.

Upazila education officer Nurul Islam said, "We are aware of dilapidated condition of the school building. The higher authorities have been informed and urged to take action in this regard on an urgent basis."
